This is the first project that I've done that's going to last more than a few weeks, so it's important to get an idea of what there is to do and how much time it's going to take to do each part. To that end, I've decided to create a basic timetable and task list to keep track of my progress.
Overall, I want to follow the motto of one of my professors, which is "get it done, then make it pretty". Applied to my project, this will mean that the priority will be on gameplay over graphics, and that everything at least has a placeholder to get an idea of the game. This will be called my "pre-alpha" stage.
Once I've got everything set up and connected, I'll start tidying up the assets - modelling and texturing in more detail. I'll also add in some basic sounds and music. At this point, depending on testing feedback, I'll start to add in the various powerups and tweak them as necessary. This will be my "alpha" stage.
Once this is done, I'll be mostly creating and finalising assets, as well as doing the most important step - debugging. This will be my "beta/release" stage. After this is complete, all I'd have left to do would be marketing mockups and advertising material, as well as prepare a presentation deck to present my game.
I've decided to use Google Slides for my timetable, as using a cloud-based option lets me work from anywhere, and following that I'll be using Trello to keep track of individual tasks as they come up. In setting them both up, I discovered that Trello has addons, one of which I've used (called "Epic cards") to allocate my tasks into a larger group that comprise my stages.

One more thing I did this week, unrelated to planning, was to create a simple mockup of what I want my final game to look like.
